Barcelona

What a remarkable destination for a conference.

I have recently returned from the EO Barcelona University, a Conference for members of the Entrepreneurs Organisation. The theme of the conference was Design your life: You have to create your own journey, not copy others’. To me this conference was so powerful and makes me genuinely want to improve every aspect of my life.
The conference was about engaging leading entrepreneurs to learn, grow and succeed on the personal, business and global stage.

We were very fortunate in that we had some incredibly inspirational guest speakers. One of the speakers that has made a huge impact on me is Nando Parrado. You may remember the airplane crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 which crashed at 4500m altitude on full speed in the Andes mountains on October 13, 1972. Nando is one of the sixteen Uruguayan survivors of this horrible disaster. He personally told us of the struggles they underwent through the 2 and a half months they were in -40degree conditions and how they started working as a team within minutes from he crash. Their determination of surviving is just extraordinary, achieving excellence, leadership and team work that no book, school or anyone can teach you, there were survivors..
He shows you the reality that you could lose your job, your company, a friend or a family member and there are no answers, you just have to move forward.
Nando inspires you to believe that you can do anything you put your mind to. You just have to have the willpower and mindset to never give up!
Don’t forget people around you: family, they will support you every day.

Morten Lund was another guest speaker that I found to be very moving. Morten, at 37 years of age has been a multi multi millionaire. Morten is the founder of Skype and then went on to invest in 88 companies becoming a ventrepreneur. He lost everything in his most recent venture, a national Denmark newspaper of over 140M Euros, and now declares himself bankrupt. He has seen friends stand up and stand by him and vows these are the people you need in your life, good people who can self ignite – people who don’t need to be pushed but have the motivation and freewill to be the best they can and the best for the people surrounding them. He advises to not over strategize his motto is “risk is rewarded with success”.

Family Values
In regards to family values we learnt that spending quality time with your family is very important. Many of us get caught up in our own lives and forget that we have to take a step back and look at what’s important.
A few tips we were given are:
 - Don’t buy toys for your children, buy them experiences they will cherish forever.
 - If you want your children to read they need to see you reading
 - Have a family dinner every night with the television turned off and sitting at the dining table. Creating that constant communication with your family is important for example, having a question of the night, talking about current affairs.

An important thing to realize is that money can’t buy happiness and that the most prized possessions one can have are memories.
